I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year, it certainly sounds like the children did!! Here are the usual reminders and information to ensure you are fully aware of routines and procedures.
Literacy: We will be focusing on diaries and news reports, linking to our topic. Spellings will be sent home each week to practise for a test on the following Friday morning.
At Blackshaw we want to develop a love for reading; newspapers, comics, stories, fact books, it all helps. Children need their reading diaries in school every day, they will have a specific guided reading day but will also read independently on a regular basis. Please sign their diaries so we know they have finished a book. We will change reading books every Monday morning.
Maths: We will focus on statistics, time and measurement in Maths lessons this half term. Each week, children will do a Big Maths ‘Beat That’ and ‘CLIC’ sheet. I will set MyMaths homework every 2 weeks which can be completed on the computer at home, as well as the CGP maths workout book.
Topic: Our topic this half term is ‘The Famous Five’ – focusing on famous people and events. We will start with The Great Fire of London and move on to the Moon Landings.
Independent Learning Logs: Children have their learning logs to extend their learning at home, researching our topic or investigating other things that have interested them during lessons. This does not have to be writing; drawings, artwork, models and using ICT are all excellent. It is up to the child how much work they do.
PE: Our PE day is Friday. Children need black/blue shorts and a white t-shirt. They need a jacket/tracksuit bottoms in case it is cold and we are outside. Children cannot wear earrings for PE and they cannot be covered with plasters. Could you please remove their earrings on a Friday. No other jewellery should be worn.
