Welcome to Year 4. I hope you have had a lovely summer. As you’ll already know by now we enter the classroom at 8:50 via the outer door.

N.B If your child is late for school please use the main entrance so that he/she can be registered.

Ten minute drop in sessions are available each Monday between 3.30p.m – 4p.m if you need to discuss any school matters. (Please ask to sign the appointment sheet.)

Our first class visit of the year will take place on Friday 13th October. We will be visiting Chester to find out about the Roman way of life. If you are available to help o the day, let me know.

You can continue to send in reading folders daily as they are also useful for sending letters home. Children will have the opportunity to change their book twice a week as long as the reading record is signed by a parent or carer.

Your child will need their P.E kit in school every week. We have P.E on a Monday and Wednesday.

This term we will be working on the topic of ‘Invaders and Settlers’ in the first half of the autumn term. This will involve us finding out about The Romans, The Anglo Saxons and The Vikings.

Our number work will see us reading, writing and arranging numbers to 10,000. We will also read and write numbers with up to 2 decimal places. Following this we will be adding and subtracting 4 digit numbers with decimal places. (Hopefully!) We shall also be investigating converting analogue to 24 hour clock times.

Our Literacy work will involve looking at stories with historical settings, explanations and performance poetry.

In addition to the school behaviour policy we will be using the ‘ClassDojo’ reward system. As you are probably aware by now the dojo’s are a great way of keeping in touch if you have any queries or issues.

You can help your child by:

  • Discussing any of the topics we have looked at in school.
  • Listening to them read throughout the week.
  • Encouraging them to keep up their Independent Learning Log.
