Dear Parents,

I hope you had an enjoyable Easter.

This is Year 4’s half termly letter to keep you informed of the curriculum and activities for the forthcoming half term.  There will be a number of clubs available for the children to take part in over the summer months.

Ten minute drop in sessions are available each Monday between 3.30p.m – 4p.m if you need to discuss any school matters. (Please ask to sign the appointment sheet.)

Our main topics this half term are a geography based topic called ‘Window on the World’. We will be learning about how and why people have settled in certain areas and the origins of place names.

In addition to this topic we will also be investigating the history of animation in a topic called ‘When Wallace met Mickey’. This topic will incorporate art, literacy and computing.

In numeracy we shall be continuing to investigate fractions, word problems relating to division and multiplication. Also number work will involve consolidating our knowledge of all multiplication tables.

Literacy will see us investigating poetry and dilemmas. We will also be looking into metaphors and similes.

I will also be sending spelling home on a Friday this term. These can be learnt over the week ready for a test on the following Friday. As always, the secret to learning anything is to practice a little, often. I will also be setting maths homework for the children every week.

You can continue to send in reading folders daily as they are also useful for sending letters home. Children will have the opportunity to change their book twice a week as long as the reading record is signed by a parent or carer.

Your child will need their P.E kit in school every week. We have P.E on a Monday.

You can help your child by:

  • Discussing any of the topics we have looked at in school.
  • Listening to them read throughout the week.
  • Helping with spelling and maths homework.

N.B If your child is late for school please use the main entrance so that he/she can be registered.
